Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $499,597)
The goal of this study is to enhance public safety through effective identification, investigation and prosecution of hate crimes in Miami. This will be achieved by examining and documenting victimization experiences, offender characteristics and motivations, crime reporting and case processing nuances via victim interviews, administrative records, case file reviews, and practitioner interviews. Researchers will interview 400 respondents who have been victims of a crime employing an innovative sampling strategythree-stage venue-based sampling. The Miami-Dade State Attorneys Office and the Miami-Dade Police Department will also provide access to administrative data, and all police and prosecutorial files processed as specific types of hate crimes.
This project contains a research and/or development component, as defined in applicable law, and complies with Part 200 Uniform Requirements - 2CFR 200.210(a)(14).
